INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

General information

1.

The Annals of Parasitology (formerly Wiadomości Parazytologiczne) is an official, peer reviewed quarterly of the Polish Parasitological Society. The Annals of Parasitology publishes original papers, review articles, and short notes in the fields of parasitology, mycology, and related disciplines. It also accepts interdisciplinary articles, scientific conference proceedings, book reviews. An important mission of our journal is to inform our readers about the activities of the Polish Parasitological Society and advancement of parasitology both in Poland and elsewhere. The Annals of Parasitology is issued in printed form, with abstracts and full verion as PDF files of original papers and review articles being also available on: http://www.ptparasit.org.pl. The Annals of Parasitology (formerly Wiadomości Parazytologiczne) is internationally indexed in Helminthological Abstracts, Protozoological Abstracts, International Abstracts of Biological Sciences, BIOSIS, AGRO-LIBREX, EBSCO, Global Health, Thomson Reuters Master Journal List and is annually evaluated in Index Copernicus.

All papers should be written in English. The paper should fulfil the following criteria:

the paper cannot have been published earlier or submitted to any other Editorial Office for publication;

materials derived from other sources must be accompanied by a written permission for reproduction from the publisher;

authors should respect the Helsinki Declaration, that means that all research involving humans and/or animals should be conducted in accordance with these principles. All human and animal studies must have been approved by the principal investigator's institutional review board.

Each paper submitted to Annals of Parasitology is approved by two independent reviewers and at least one of the reviewers is affiliated with a foreign institution other than the author's nationality. The review is conducted using the method of double-blind review process, in which neither the reviewer knows the identity of the authors and their affiliated units, nor the authors know the name of the evaluator. The manuscript is subsequently forwarded to the author along with the review(s) and, after incorporating the reviewers’ comments and responding to them, the author returns the revised manuscript to the Editorial Office. The rules for approval or rejection of the publication and review form are made available to the authors on the website of the journal. The names of reviewers of individual publications/issues are not disclosed; the journal shall publish a list of cooperating reviewers once per year.

Upon acceptance, authors gratuitously transfer copyright to the publisher (unless they reserved it otherwise at the moment of submission). The copyright covers not only printed version but also electronic media including the internet.

Per-page charge of 40 PLN applies to papers financed by research grants. Also colour figures in all papers will be charged.

Preparation of the manuscript

Papers should be prepared using MS Word program and sent for publication to the Editorial Office on a CD accompanied by two printed copies or electronically e-mail: abroccy@poczta.onet.pl

2.

The volume of original and review papers should not exceed 20 pages, those of case reports 5 pages, including references, figures, tables, and summaries.

3.

The papers should be printed on A4 format paper sheets, using double spacing between the lines, with 12-point-sized Times New Roman font. Margin should be 2.5 cm wide on both sides of the page. No font alterations can be applied except italics for Latin generic and specific names. Pages must be numbered.

The first page should contain:

title of the paper,

 

-

authors' full names (with first name spelled out and middle name initialised; corresponding author must be clearly indicated),

 

-

affiliation of all authors (with abbreviations spelled out and complete postal addresses)

 

-

key words (not more than 6).

5.

The pages which follow should contain:

a. abstract;

b. text of paper;

c. acknowledgements;

d. references;

e. summary in Polish.

 

a)

abstract

Original articles require at least 200 words of an abstract. All abbreviations used must be explained. For review articles and case reports of more than 150 words is appropriate.

 

b)

text of paper

The layout of the paper should include the following separate sections: Introduction, Objectives, Materials and Methods, Results, Conclusions, References, Tables, Figures, Legends (included in single file).

All the abbreviations should be explained in the article, when used for the first time. The results of biochemical estimations and units of measure should be given in SI system.

References should be cited in the text, in square brackets, in the consecutive order (in which they are first mentioned in the text, the table, or the figure).

Conclusions cannot be a repetition of the results.

In the case of experiments carried out on humans or animals the information about the fact that they are performed according to the requirements of the Helsinki Declaration, and after permission of the Local Supervisory Committee on Experiments on Humans (the Ethical Committee) must be given in the description of the methods.

Obtained reproduction permissions should be acknowledged by the statement: „by consent of...".

Each table should be typed on a separate A4 paper sheet. The tables should be numbered with Arabic numerals. All abbreviations used in tables must be explained under the table. The head of table is separated from the contents by a line; the table is bounded by lines at the top and at the bottom and open at the sides.

Figures should be submitted as tif (tiff) or bmp files. Figures should be numbered with Arabic numerals in order of appearance. Titles of figures should be sent on a separate sheet.

All contributors who do not meet the criteria for authorship such as technical assistants, writing assistants, should be mentioned in the Acknowledgements.

 

d)

references

The references of articles coming from journals should include bibliographical descriptions: all names of authors along with the first names initials, year of publication, paper's title, full journal title (italics), volume (annual) number, number of the page on which the article starts and ends, with punctuation according to the following example:

The manuscript (if necessary) must be accompanied by: copies of permissions of the Ethical Committee; - copies of any permissions to reproduce published material or illustrations.

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements will be returned to authors for correction.

8.

Revised manuscripts must be delivered on CD or electronically.

9.

The Editor reserves the right to alter and correct the manuscript considered for publication in a way that will not change its overall value. Proposition of substantial changes or considerable shortening will be consulted with the author.

10.

Authors are obliged to return proofs within 3 days to the Editorial Office. Authors can be charged for more extensive changes in the body of the galley proofs.
